Hockey World Cup 2018: India Defeats Canada 5-1 To Enter Quarterfinals

The match that was looking to be heading towards a 1-1 draw at end of first three quarters, witnessed hosts thrashing Canada in the last quarter of the match.  India’s Chinglensana Singh (46th minute), Lalit Upadhyay (47th, 57th) and Amit Rohidas (51st) did four goals in quick succession to help India crush Canada with a 5-1 defeat.

With this win India earned direct berth in the World Cup quarter-finals. Lalit Upadhyay was declared Man-of-the-Match.

India finished the group stage with seven points from three matches. Belgium, who thrashed South Africa 5-1 earlier in the day, have the same points in equal number of matches. However, the Indian team boasted better goal difference over Belgium that confirmed them a direct entry to the quarterfinals.
