U.K. Prime Minister Admittedw in Hospital, as tested positive for COVID-19

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is affecting countries and territories around the world and caused many deaths and major disruption to the global economy. As of April 8, United Kingdom has reported 55,949 confirmed cases and 6,171 deaths due to COVID-19 pandemic, only 325 patients have been recovered. Even the Prime Minister of United Kingdom is also suffering from COVID-19.

Mr. Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of United Kingdom, was moved to an intensive care unit (ICU) of St Thomas’ Hospital in central London on Sunday night and receiving supplemental oxygen treatment as he was suffering from COVID-19 symptoms including a cough and a high temperature fever for last 10 days. The condition of his health was deteriorated and however he has not been put on a ventilator yet.

On March 27, Mr. Boris Johnson announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and has been isolating himself in Downing Street and he was staying there as he still had a high temperature, where his doctors had felt that he required some more tests.

Not only Mr. Boris Johnson, even his health minister Mr. Matt Hancock had tested positive last month but now he is recovered properly. Johnson’s fiancee, Carrie Symonds, also had symptoms but she was feeling better on Saturday and tested negative for COVID-19. The health condition of Mr. Boris Johnson is stable now. He has not required invasive or non-invasive ventilation in intensive care unit (ICU) and he does not have pneumonia.

The U.K. Government Is Running Without Him…… How?

Mr. Boris Johnson, the UK Prime Minister is in stable condition now, but he is taking a gap from his job for a while as he cannot govern the country while fighting with COVID-19. Meanwhile, the question is “How the UK government is running the country without Mr. Boris Johnson?”

The country’s Cabinet is collectively running the country in the absence of the Prime Minister and he has nominated Mr. Dominic Raab, who a British politician is serving as First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Foreign, for his deputize.

Mr. Dominic Raab said that “There is an amazing strong  team spirit behind the Prime Minister and team is making sure that we get all of the plans the prime minister’s instructed us to deliver to get them implemented as soon as possible.”

Generally, the Cabinet ministers would select a candidate to become Prime Minister on a temporary basis in the absence of a Prime Minister. Or, since the U.K. does not have a constitutional provision requiring a Prime Minister at all times, they can run the country until a new leader was elected by the Conservative Party. After that the Queen will appoint that person as Prime Minister of the country accordingly. The Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said that rights of Mr. Dominic Raab has stemmed from the consent of the Cabinet. It means he may deputize on behalf of Prime Minister in terms of making right decisions and chairing meetings, and the taken decisions should be followed strictly.  In case, if Mr. Boris Johnson dies from COVID-19, Mr. Dominic Raab will not become Prime Minister automatically.
