India Elected Unopposed to United Nations Security Council

India was elected to United Nations Security Council winning the election by 184 votes out of 192. This is the eighth time India is elected to United Nations Security Council as its Non Permanent Member. India will be the voice of reason and moderation, an advocate of dialogue and a proponent of international law.

On India securing seat on UN Security Council, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter “Deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the global community for India’s membership of the @UN Security Council. India will work with all member countries to promote global peace, security, resilience and equity.”

“On behalf of Canada, we congratulate Norway, Ireland, India & Mexico on their election to the UN Security Council. The only way forward is #Together and together we stand,” said the Canada Minister of Foreign Affairs,  Mr Franciois-Philippe Champagne in his congratulatory tweet.

Mr Nadir Patel, High Commissioner of Canada to India tweeted “Congratulations to India for its election to the UN Security Council. Look forward to ongoing bilateral and multilateral collaboration.”

It’s quite some time now since the demand of expansion of the permanent membership of United Nations Security Council is increasing and India is one of the prominent contenders to secure the permanent seat as and when the Security Council is expanded.
