Sports Authority of India to resume Sports Activities, makes Travel Arrangements for Athletes

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) said on Wednesday (Oct 21) that sports activities will resume at SAI facilities across the country from November 1, 2020, taking into account the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics next year.

Moreover, the Sports Authority of India has decided to make travel arrangements for the athletes of the NCOE/SAI training centers who are keen to join the facilities for their trainings, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision was made in response to a situation that suddenly emerged in March this year, when athletes had to be sent back home due to the risk and transmission of the infection. It has been decided to provide air tickets to the athletes who have to travel more than 500 km and the athletes whose stations are less than 500 km may travel by train in the third AC.

In addition, in order to establish a bio-bubble for training resumption at the SAI facilities, it has been decided to provide accommodation for all coaches and support staff of the NCOE/STC. Formal and contract workers will be provided with accommodation by the government.

The SAI has also confirmed that the authorities have also contacted all athletes and their parents to inform them of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the SAI and all athletes will require to follow these SOPs before and after joining the SAI Center.

If athletes wish to celebrate Diwali with their families, they can also choose to join the SAI Center after the festival.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in early March this year and on the advice of the government, the Sports Authority of India took proactive preventive measures against the COVID-19 and issued instructions to all its regional leaders.

Earlier, the relevant regional directors of the SAI Center were asked to facilitate the return of the athletes. The athletes living at a distance more than 400 km and less than 400 km were sent back by air and AC 3-tier train, respectively.
