Legendary Singer Bryan Adams Turns 61 Today

The Legendary Bryan Adams is celebrating his 61 birthday today (born 5 November 1959). The celebrity Canadian guitarist, singer, composer, record producer, photographer, philanthropist, and activist, Adams is estimated to have sold about 75 million records around the world.

Adams rose to fame in Canada and the United States with his 1983 Top 10 album Cuts Like a Knife, which contained its well-known title track. His 1984 album, Reckless, made him a global star and yielded some of his best-known songs, including the rock songs “Run to You” and “Summer of ’69“, both Top 10 hits in the US, and the ballad “Heaven“, which reached No. 1 in the US. Reckless reached No. 1 in both Canada and the US, and became the first album by a Canadian to reach Diamond in sales in Canada. In 1991, Adams’s Waking Up the Neighbors album reached No. 1 in several countries, also being certified Diamond in Canada. “Everything I Do, I Do It for You” off the album was a world-wide hit reaching No. 1 in many countries and held the top spot on the United Kingdom’s singles chart for a record 16 consecutive weeks.

Other successful singles off the album were the Canadian No. 1’s “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started” and “Thought I’d Died and Gone to Heaven“, both of which also reached the Top 10 in some other countries.

Other worldwide hits include “All for Love” and “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?”, which both topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, plus “Please Forgive Me” which reached No. 1 or No. 2 in several countries. “Please Forgive Me” was off his first greatest hits album, So Far So Good, which hit No. 1 in numerous countries, including going 11x platinum in Australia. In the 1990s, Adams had 11 No. 1 singles in Canada and held the No. 1 spot for 32 weeks, both highs for any artist of any nationality. Adams has had six No. 1 albums in Canada, the latest being 2019’s Shine a Light which also reached the Top 10 in several other countries. Adams has had 25 Top 15 singles in Canada and at least a dozen in each of the US, UK and Australia, although he has not had any Top 10 singles since 2002. In 2008, Adams was ranked 38th on the list of all-time top artists on the Billboard Hot 100.

Bryan Adams has garnered many awards and nominations, including 20 Juno Awards among 56 nominations, and 15 Grammy Award nominations, including a win for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television in 1992. Adams has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and three Academy Awards for his songwriting for films. Adams has been inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Canada’s Walk of Fame, the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. On 1 May 2010, Adams received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for his 30 years of contributions to the arts.
