Kangana Ranaut to act as Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Her Next Movie

Indian actress Kangana Ranaut has confirmed on social media that she is going to act as formal and first lady Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her next grand movie, which will be directed by Indian film Director Sai Kabir.

The Bollywood star has already essayed the role of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the biopic ‘Thalaivi’, directed by A. L. Vijay and released on June 26, 2020. The new project will allow her to portray another powerful female leader in politics.

Confirming the development in a statement, Kangana Ranaut said that the movie will not be a biopic, but will feature major moments in India’s political history, including Operation Blue Star and The Emergency.

“Yes, we are working on the project, and the script is in the final stages. It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand (the) socio-political landscape of current India,” the actress said.

She further informed that the movie is based on a book, without mentioning the name of the book. Several famous actors will also be part of the movie and will play the role of prominent political leaders such as Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi among others.

Kangana Ranaut also shared an image of one of her old photo shoots, in which she disguised herself as the former Prime Minister. About the picture, she wrote, “This is a photo shoot about iconic women I did in the beginning of my career, little did I know one day I will get to play the iconic leader on screen.”

The actress’s longtime friend and Filmmaker Sai Kabir, who has already worked with Kangana Ranaut in ‘Revolver Rani’, will write the story and script of the movie, while Kangana will be the producer. The movie is yet to be titled and will be made on a massive scale.

In addition to this film, Kangana Ranaut is also set to act in films – Dhaakad and Tejas. Currently, she is in Bhopal to shoot an action thriller titled Dhaakad, in which she acts as a female assassin. She had also announced the second part of the ‘Manikarnika’ franchise entitled ‘Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda’.
