Cameron MacKay becomes High Commissioner to India

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced the following diplomatic appointments to India. Cameron MacKay becomes High Commissioner in the Republic of India. Mr. MacKay is currently Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste. He will replace Nadir Patel as High Commissioner to India.

Cameron Mackay joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1995, and has served as director of regional trade policy from 2008-10, director general for China trade policy from 2012-13, director general of the Trade Negotiations Bureau from 2013-15 and director general of the Trade Sectors Bureau from 2015-17

As per the announcement, Benoit Préfontaine is appointed as Consul General in Bengaluru, Patrick Hébert as Consul General in Chandigarh, and  Diedrah Kelly as Consul General in Mumbai.

At this time when diplomatic relations between the two countries are low, these new appointments are seen as a positive step forward to improve upon the bilateral ties.
